Book scanners

Digitise books and documents quickly, without damaging them.

Self-service overhead scanners for students and staff, and robotic book scanners for large-scale digitisation of library collections.

Robotic book scanner with a V-shaped cradle

The challenge

Libraries hold material that students want in digital form and collections that need preserving. Flatbed scanners and photocopiers strain spines and give poor results on bound books, and digitising a collection by hand takes years.

The solution

We supply two kinds of scanner. The self-service scanner is a walk-up overhead unit: place the book face up, preview the scan on a large touchscreen and send it to USB, email, the cloud or a phone. Software corrects the curve of the page automatically.

The robotic book scanner is built for volume. An automatic page-turning system handles each page individually, and the V-shaped cradle supports the book at an angle that protects the binding. It can switch between fully automatic, semi-automatic and manual modes.

Capabilities

01

Self-service scanning

A 24-inch multi-touch screen with full HD preview makes the scanner easy for anyone to use.

02

Book curve correction

Software straightens text near the fold.

03

Flexible output

Save to USB, network, email, mobile or cloud, with optional searchable PDF.

04

Automatic page turning

A robotic finger turns single pages with care, at up to 2,500 pages per hour.

05

Three operating modes

Fully automatic, semi-automatic and manual, at the push of a button.

06

Preservation standards

Robotic scanning can work in line with FADGI and Metamorfoze guidelines.

Benefits

Students make their own scans without staff help.

Fragile and bound material is handled gently.

Large collections are digitised far faster than by hand.

Less photocopying and less paper.
